Upper Classrooms
At Palmer Primary School the Upper Primary class caters for students in Year 4 to 7. It provides a rich, differentiated learning environment where students take responsibility for their learning, and experience challenges, problem solving tasks and success. Students are expected to follow and demonstrate our school ‘BEAR’ values – Being Responsible, Excellence, Always Trying and Respect.
Students are given opportunities to be creative, and be resilient and persistent with their learning. They are encouraged to be foster a growth mindset and be confident when entering the learning pit, giving them the skills to be powerful learners.
Curriculum
There is a strong focus on numeracy and literacy at Palmer Primary School.
Our literacy block comprises of Jolly Spelling and Grammar, reading, genre writing using the 7 Steps to Writing Success, and Literacy Loop. Literacy Loop is a rotation of literacy tasks, that allows students to be read to, and listened to, daily, as well as practice comprehension skills that are essential to becoming confident, independent readers.
The numeracy block provides students with learning tasks that promotes problem solving, and the use of various strategies. We based our lessons on the principles of Natural Maths, which is consistent throughout Reception to Year 7 at Palmer Primary School.
Parent Communication
Regular communication with parents and carers is important to Palmer Primary School. Student reports are sent home at the end of Terms 2 and 4, and Parent/Teacher meetings occur in Terms 1 and 3. The Class Dojo app is used in the Upper Primary class as a means of sharing student’s work with their parents. It also provides a means of communication between parents and teachers through direct messaging.
Please feel free to contact me if you would like any other information about the upper class.
